QPR approach Sherwood over managerial vacancy

as_sherwood
QPR have contacted Tim Sherwood about becoming the club's next manager but no deal has yet been agreed.
Derby boss Steve McClaren and Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement are also in the frame for the vacancy.
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes is keen to bring in a young manager with a focus on nurturing young talent.
The club hope to make an appointment next week and at least by the time they play at Hull on 21 February.
"We the board will hire someone who cares, thinks long term, wants to be involved in developing the academy, has coaching skills, will play young players and is a winner," said Fernandes.
"The names that fans are mentioning to me are names that we are going to consider. I would say three interviews will be done. All fan feedback has been taken in."

Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal charged with 'bringing the game into dispute

Van Gaal charged for comments following Man United's FA Cup draw

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been charged for comments he made to press after seeing his side held to a goalless draw at Cambridge United in the FA Cup last month.
The Dutchman said after the fourth-round tie that "every aspect of the match" had been "against" his team, including the referee Chris Foy.
A statement from the Football Association on Wednesday said it was alleged that his words "allege and/or imply bias on the part of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute".
Van Gaal has until 6pm on Monday to respond to the charge.
Having seen the Premier League giants held by their League Two hosts in the sides’ initial encounter at the Abbey Stadium, a disgruntled Van Gaal said: ''Every aspect of the match is against us - the pitch, the referee, everything that you can think about is against you."
He later repeated ''every aspect of a match is against us", adding: ''You have seen the referee. It's always the same.
"Everywhere I have coached these games - and I have coached them also with other clubs - it's always the same.''

West Ham fined £71,000 and reprimanded by FIFA over Sakho's FA Cup appearance

West Ham have been fined £71,000 and reprimanded for playing striker Diafra Sakho in the FA Cup after the club had said he was unavailable for Senegal's African Nations Cup campaign due to injury.
Fears that the Hammers would be kicked out of the FA Cup have proved unfounded as the world governing body imposed only a fine - though the player has also been reprimanded.
Sakho scored the winner against Bristol City on January 25, two days before Senegal were eliminated from the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
FIFA's rules say a player cannot appear for his club if he is supposed to be on international duty.
A FIFA statement said: "The Senegalese FA was informed by West Ham United that Sakho was prevented from playing and travelling by plane due to injury and thus he did not join the Senegal team.
"On 25 January 2015, the player took part in an official match for his club West Ham United. Senegal were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations 2015 on 27 January 2015.
"The FIFA disciplinary committee has found the club and the player to have violated... the regulations in relation to the match played by Sakho on 25 January. The club has been fined 100,000 Swiss francs and issued with a reprimand, while the player has been sanctioned with a reprimand."

Agent: Mourinho will never be tempted away from Chelsea

as_mourinho3
The agent of Jose Mourinho can see the Portuguese retiring with Chelsea.
Jorge Mendes can't see Mourinho being tempted away from Stamford Bridge - not even by Manchester United.
"Jose will stay for sure," said Mendes to BBC Sport.
"He will be the Sir Alex Ferguson of Chelsea Football Club. He loves the supporters, he loves the city and I think he will stay there for more than 10 years."

Hoeck call Convinced Valdes to quit Liverpool for Man Utd

as_valdes

Frans Hoeck was key to Victor Valdes signing for Manchester United.
United's Dutch goalkeeper coach worked with Valdes at Barcelona and convinced the Spaniard to leave his training stint at Liverpool and relocate to Carrington.
El Pais says Valdes was happy to accept the invitation as he worked his way back from a serious knee injury.
The former Barcelona goalkeeper signed an 18 month deal last month after an extended trial period to prove his fitness.
"What a world champion, he shows the kids the right behavior and is an example to his teammates," said U21 coach Warren Joyce. "He's a very humble person and a model professional."

Arsenal and Liverpool target Mkhitaryan want to leave Borussia Dortmund

Arsenal and Liverpool have been put on red alert after the agent of Henrikh Mkhitaryan revealed the midfielder wants to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
talkSPORT told you last month about Arsenal's growing interest in the 26-year-old, who has impressed for Dortmund since joining for £23.6m from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013.
Liverpool were chasing the playmaker before he joined the Bundesliga side and it is thought that they still hold a strong interest in his services.
And now both Arsenal and Liverpool have received a major boost after Mkhitaryan's agent - Mino Raiola - admitted his client wants to leave.
Jurgen Klopp's side have endured a miserable season so far and find themselves rock bottom of the Bundesliga table.
"Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season," Raiola was quoted as saying by Bild.
"We will have to wait and see what we can do."

AC Milan coaches unsurprised with Balotelli's Liverpool problem

as_balotelli2

AC Milan coach staff aren't surprised by Mario Balotelli's struggles at Liverpool.
The striker left Milan in August for the Reds, but has found himself on the outer of manager Brendan Rodgers' first team plans.
"He did not feel like working, or running, or being part the group. He is rude and then cries and becomes the victim," an unnamed Milan staff member told El Pais.
When Balotelli was sold, there was a split amongst the Milan coaching staff.
"The bet, and it seems that we are winning, was this: he will no longer do anything anywhere," added the source.

Falcao agent take another swipe at Utd boss Louis van Gaal

as_falcao1

The agent of Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao has taken a fresh swipe at Louis van Gaal.
Mendes says Van Gaal is failing to live up to the standards of Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Having Sir Alex Ferguson ensures at this moment you have 12 or 15 points more.
"He's finished his career, but he's someone that's the difference."
Speaking with BBC Sport, Mendes says executive chairman Ed Woodward was "the right guy to drive Manchester United to find a way to win important trophies".
"But at the same time, he has just one problem - it's completely impossible to find someone like Sir Alex Ferguson because he's a god, he's a genius and to find a genius is very difficult," Mendes said.
"You have one in England - Jose Mourinho."

English name Cipriani and Easter on the bench for Six Nations opener against Wales

Danny Cipriani and Nick Easter named on the bench for England's Six Nations opener against Wales in Cardiff

Danny Cipriani and Nick Easter have been named on the bench for England for the Six Nations opener against Wales on Friday night.
Cipriani provides fly-half cover for George Ford while Easter, more traditionally a number eight, has been asked to deputize for the second row with his experience deemed invaluable for the Millennium Stadium showdown.
A new centre partnership is formed by Jonathan Joseph and Luther Burrell and Dan Cole returns at tighthead prop having recovered from a foot problem in his first Test appearance for almost a year.
"Jonathan has been one of the form centres in the country. He and Luther have trained well together and this is a big opportunity for both of them," head coach Stuart Lancaster said.
England's injury crisis means there are only nine survivors from the starting XV that toppled Australia in the climax to the autumn and just five from the 30-3 rout in Cardiff two years ago.
Cole features in the front row as a replacement for David Wilson, who has a neck problem, and is one of four British and Irish Lions returning to the 23 alongside Tom Youngs, Mako Vunipola and Tom Croft, who have been picked on the bench.
Joe Marler continues at loosehead as his reward for a strong year for England while Dylan Hartley has held off the challenge of Tom Youngs, despite his recurring lapses in discipline that now total 50 weeks in suspensions.
The injury crisis has hit hardest in the second row where Dave Attwood now operates as the senior lock in tandem with rookie George Kruis, who has not played for three weeks after being banned for a dangerous tackle.
Ben Morgan's Championship-ending broken leg means Billy Vunipola starts at number eight and James Haskell comes in for Tom Wood, who has an ankle issue.
The new centre pairing of Joseph and Burrell are the only adjustments to the backline that faced down the Wallabies in November with Ford and Ben Youngs continuing at half-back.
Billy Twelvetrees has beaten Jack Nowell to the final available spot among the replacements.
England, mindful of having been caught in the headlights at the Millennium Stadium in 2012, have adopted a policy of packing the 23 with as much experience as is available to them.
"We've had to make some tight calls but we are excited about the side selected for what will be big challenge," Lancaster said.
"Billy Vunipola has been playing well for Saracens and it's good to be able to give George Kruis his first international start after his impressive run off the bench in November.
"Dan Cole and James Haskell bring a lot of experience, as do the bench, and their contribution will be crucial on Friday night."
It is the presence of Cipriani and Easter among the replacements that provides the biggest talking point with the duo having encountered moments of controversy during their Test careers.
Cipriani, who made two replacement appearances during the summer tour to New Zealand, benefits from Owen Farrell's Championship-ending knee injury and has been preferred ahead of Stephen Myler to cover for Ford.
Easter won the last of his 47 caps at the 2011 World Cup but has been ignored by Lancaster until his recent return to the fold, rewarded for his magnificent form for Harlequins.
England team to face Wales in Friday's RBS 6 Nations match at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, KO 8.05pm:
M Brown (Harlequins); A Watson (Bath Rugby), J Joseph (Bath Rugby), L Burrell (Northampton Saints), J May (Gloucester Rugby); G Ford (Bath Rugby), B Youngs (Leicester Tigers); J Marler (Harlequins), D Hartley (Northampton Saints), D Cole (Leicester Tigers), D Attwood (Bath Rugby), G Kruis (Saracens), J Haskell (Wasps), C Robshaw (Harlequins, capt), B Vunipola (Saracens).
Replacements: T Youngs (Leicester Tigers), M Vunipola (Saracens), K Brookes (Newcastle Falcons), N Easter (Harlequins), T Croft (Leicester Tigers), R, Wigglesworth (Saracens), D Cipriani (Sale Sharks), B Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby).

Paulista: Cilberto Silva was my idol

as_wenger3
Arsenal signing Gabriel Paulista admits he was a fan of Gilberto Silva growing up.
Gabriel is waiting to make his Gunners debut after his arrival from Villarreal last week.
"I remember Gilberto Silva because he was always with the Brazilian national team," Gabriel told Arsenal Player.
"He was a mirror for every Brazilian player and every child, who looked up to Gilberto Silva as a reference. He was an influence for many players, not only Brazilians but players around the world.
"I could see that he was a major element here, he really helped the team, he really is a player I want to emulate because of his type of work and his will to help his team-mates, his will to win as a true Brazilian.
"To me he’s a mirror, so I will always take many good things I saw in him and take it to the pitch, and off the pitch as well, because I think he was an excellent professional who did many good things.
"I want to be like him, to be able to do the most I can to help everyone."

Redknapp: QPR will survive relegation without me

image: http://talksport.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/field/image/201502/harry-redknapp_0.jpg?itok=ogVbdtxu

Harry Redknapp insists QPR have enough ‘good players’ to beat Premier League relegation this season.
The Rs have picked up just two points from their last six league fixtures and, following unsuccessful moves for Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor and West Ham winger Matt Jarvis, failed to improve their squad during Monday’s transfer deadline day.
But Redknapp believes QPR’s squad is good enough to keep the club in the top-flight.
When asked whether the Super Hoops will stay up, he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show: “I do [think they will]. There are enough good players there to keep the club in the division.
“It’s so close down there. QPR’s home form is good, and they’ve got the teams in the bottom half to play away.
"They’ve got as a good a chance as any of the teams down there. There are eight teams in the relegation scrap, and one win takes you up three or four places. It’s very tight.”
Redknapp revealed he is due to undergo knee replacement surgery in the coming weeks and did not feel he would be able to give 100 per cent to the job, hence his decision to quit.
But he insisted this is not the end of his time in the game.
“I like being involved,” he continued. “I want to go and watch games, I want to get involved somewhere.
“I don’t know what I’d do if I was sat around at home all day, I’d drive the missus mad! I can’t change a plug, I’m better off out of the way.”

Herrera in court over Match Fixing allegation

as_herrera1
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera faces a looming Spanish court appearance.
AS reports Herrera is due in court on March 5 at 9.30am - the morning after Manchester United travel to St James' Park for their Premier League meeting.
He is one of 41 people that have been called to court over the next four months after being implicated in a match fixing case involving Levante and Zaragoza from 2011.
Zaragoza won the match 2-1, meaning they avoided relegation but Spain's anti-corruption police investigated the fixture after they suspected wrong-doing.
Prosecutors allege that Levante players were paid to lose the match - a claim they deny.

Januzaj unsure where he fits in LVG's Man Utd plan

as_januzaj1

Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj is unsure where he stands under manager Louis van Gaal.
Januzaj says he's finding it hard to adapt to Van Gaal's new-look United.
"The system can make it more difficult for me to play there but I have to keep working," he said.
"That is what I am doing in training every day, as I want to get more games this season.
"I'm not really a wing-back. It's harder for me because there is more defending involved and I'm not really a defender.
"It depends on how my football evolves. My favourite position is as a No.10 or a winger.
"There are lots of players here and I can play in different roles - it's just a case of taking my opportunities. I have to show the manager that I can part of his starting XI."
He added: "Last year I played a lot of games and every week I was feeling better and better.
"I've not been playing a lot this season but it's OK. I will try to work hard in training and out on the pitch."

Louis van Gaal: Man Utd have one hand on the FA cup

as_wilson
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes they have one hand on the FA Cup after their victory over Cambridge United last night.
Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and James Wilson all found the net in the fourth round replay at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
"We have a real chance now," the United boss said.
"Why? Because we are the highest-qualified team in the FA Cup."
"I am not a casino man," the Dutchman added. "But of course I think the highest-qualified teams have more possibilities to win than lower-qualified teams.
"Maybe people are maybe betting on us. I am not allowed to (but) I give you a tip."

Man United starlet ‘has a great future ahead’, Mata tells

Manchester United star Juan Mata has told talkSPORT he is expecting great things from young striker James Wilson, saying the 19-year-old has “everything to succeed” with the Premier League giants.
Wilson has impressed in his breakthrough season with the Red Devils, having been given his first taste of first-team action at the end of last term under interim boss Ryan Giggs.
He's had to wait for his chance, with Radamel Falcaojoining the club in the summer, but he was on target for United in Tuesday night’s FA Cup victory over Cambridge United which saw the 11-time winners progress to the fifth round.
Picking the ball up outside the box, Wilson dropped his shoulder and fired a sweet left-foot shot past goalkeeper Chris Dunn and into the bottom-corner, sealing a 3-0 triumph at Old Trafford.
Rival side Tottenham have been rewarded for their faith in their young stars, with 21-year-old striker Harry Kane currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 20 goals in all competitions.
And Mata believes Wilson will similarly become a key member of the Man United squad of the future.
“James has a great future ahead of him,” the Spain international told the Sports Bar.
“Everyone can see he has a great left foot, it’s incredible the way he can finish. His touch is good and he is quick as well; he has everything to succeed.
“He will have to be patient because there are a lot of other players in the team, but I think he can be very important to the club in the future.”
United boss Louis van Gaal has said he is targeting FA Cup glory after progressing to the next stage of the competition.
The Red Devils haven’t lifted the trophy since 2004 but are one of the favourites for this year's crown after Manchester City and Chelsea faced shocked fourth round exits.
And Mata added that the side will do everything in their power to bring home some silverware following a tough few seasons at Old Trafford.
“It would be very good for us to win the trophy,” the playmaker said.
“It’s been a long time since the club has won the FA Cup so it would be special for every one of us.
“We will do everything we can to pass the next round and that’s all we’re thinking about now, the next round.”
On the clash with Cambridge, who hit the post inside a minute of play at the Theatre of Dreams, Mata added: “It was a tough game from the beginning.
“You could see that from the first chance they had. If they scored the game would have been totally different, but after that we focused on moving the ball quicker, we scored goals and we played well.”

West Ham striker Cole blast Big Sam: You're f****** wrecking my career

as_allardyce

West Ham United striker Carlton Cole BLEW HIS TOP after being denied a move to West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
West Brom were prepared to buy Cole for £500,000.
The Mirror reports Cole is alleged to have stunned watching Albion staff when he allegedly shouted down the phone: "You're ******* wrecking my career!"
Further infuriating Cole was that he'd rejected an approach from QPRearlier in the day as he expected to be signing with the Baggies.
West Ham had no option to bring him back, however, because Tottenhamchairman Daniel Levy had decided to block their loan move for Emmanuel Adebayor.

FA Cup: Man United avoid shock to progress to fifth round

FA Cup round-up: Man United avoid shock to progress to fifth round
Manchester United avoided one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history as the Red Devils beat a resilient Cambridge United 3-0 in their fourth round replay.
The League Two side, who were the lowest ranked team left in the competition, produced a shock goalless draw at the Abbey Stadium a fortnight ago to secure a money-making replay at Old Trafford.
And while they had their opportunities to claim a dream away victory against the 11-time winners, Tom Elliott hitting the post inside a minute of play after an early United mistake, the Premier League side were just too strong.
Louis van Gaal’s men produced what has become a familiar lackadaisical display in the first leg, but after a frustrating opening they managed to find their rhythm in front of the Old Trafford faithful, as they cruised into the fifth round thanks to goals from Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and James Wilson.
That’s not to say the hosts were at their best, with Van Gaal clearly instructing his side to lump the ball up for Marouane Fellaini, who was playing as a make-shift forward, rather than put their wealth of global talent to good use.
Cambridge started well, with a bustling performance which limited United’s creativity, but once the first goal went in, Mata hooking the ball in at close-range from Fellaini’s headed knock-down, there was a real sense of game over for the fourth tier outfit.
A similar attack, the ball clipped into the area from out wide, saw the Red Devils take a 2-0 lead into the break, Rojo losing his marker to head home at an angle for his first club goal.
Cambridge rarely threatened after the re-start, and goalkeeper Chris Dunn did well to keep the score down with a string of really good saves to deny star trio Robin van Persie, Angel di Maria and Wayne Rooney.
Tiredness perhaps played a part as mistakes began to creep into their play, and the hosts took full advantage late on as substitute Wilson added a third with a sweet strike from outside the box to end the minnows’ brilliant cup run and seal a fifth round meeting with Preston.
The Lillywhites will host Man United at Deepdale after they came from behind to beat Sheffield United 3-1 in their replay clash.
The Blades took an early lead at Bramall Lane through forward Jamie Murphy, but North End hit back with three goals in a rampant ten minute spell.
Paul Gallagher’s free-kick forced a replay in their original 1-1 draw, and the midfielder repeated his heroics with another brilliant set piece to level.
Paul Huntington then put the visitors in front with a header, while Gallagher wrapped up the comeback with a penalty to clinch a meeting with the Premier League giants.
Another top flight team also progressed to the fifth round, as Sunderland came from behind to beat Fulham3-1 at Craven Cottage.
Huge Rodallega fired the Cottagers ahead in the first-half but the Black Cats were level after the break thanks to home goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli’s own goal, with Ricardo Alvarez’s 75th minute strike and Jordi Gomez’s penalty securing the win.
However, Sunderland fans may have to brace themselves for another battle to progress further as they face giant-killing Bradford, who knocked out Premier League Chelsea in the fourth round, next.

Anderson sign for Internacional on a free transfer

as_anderson
Manchester United midfielder Anderson has left the club on a free transfer and signed a four-year contract with Brazilian side Internacional.
The 26-year-old spent seven years at Old Trafford after joining from Portofor a fee of around £26m in July 2007.
The Brazilian has struggled with injury and fitness, hardly featuring for United's first team in recent seasons.

Harry Redknapp insist his exist was not motivated by lack of January signing

Redknapp rejects reports QPR exit was over lack of signings

Harry Redknapp has insisted he did not resign as manager of Queens Park Rangers because of the Premier Leaguestrugglers’ lack of January signings.
The boss quit from the Rangers helm on Tuesday, citing imminent knee surgery for his decision to leave, hours after the club had failed to land a number of targets on transfer deadline day.
It seemed a move for West Ham winger Matt Jarvis would go through before Monday evening’s 11pm deadline, only for a complication with the Premier League to ultimately rule out the deal, while their advances for Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor also came to nothing.
Chairman Tony Fernandes accepted the former Tottenham boss's resignation after a 5.30am phone call - a day after revealing on Twitter there would be "no more cheque book" for more signings.
The timing of Redknapp’s exit therefore led to rumours he had left the side due to their transfer failings, a view backed by ex-Super Hoops star Marc Bircham.
But the boss insists that isn’t the case, reiterating that he must make his health a priority as he prepares for a double knee replacement.
Redknapp told the Daily Mail: "I haven't got the hump. We haven't had a row. I knew some while ago that we were not going to be able to get much done in January.
"We had one real target on the last day, Emmanuel Adebayor, because we are short up front. But he was too much money. I accept that.
"There are no hard feelings on my part - I've not had a problem with Tony Fernandes in all my time there."
Redknapp added: "I know what people think - that I've been sacked, or stormed off because we couldn't get the players in.
"My son Jamie said that my timing has to be the worst in the world. When I look back on my career, it certainly isn't my strong point but I can't control what people think."
Redknapp has been told he needs replacements for both his knees and the 67-year-old cited his health as a key factor in his decision to leave Loftus Road.
"I was awake all night, thinking about it," Redknapp said. "I'm struggling so badly now. I can't walk, I can barely stand and watch. I'm in pain all the time.
"I've been putting it off and putting it off but it has got to the stage where I cannot do the job."
Redknapp continued: "I went to bed thinking I would sleep on it, but then I couldn't sleep a wink.
"That's when I decided to call Tony. It must have been 5.30am. I just told him he needed someone who could properly coach and manage the team in the next 10 weeks. It's such an important time. They need someone who can give it everything."
Redknapp was unable to save QPR from relegation in 2013, but led the club back to the top flight at the first time of asking last term.
QPR have been unable to carry that momentum into the current campaign, however, as they sit second bottom of the table with 15 games left.
"I was totally honest with Tony. I told him he needed someone who could commit to every aspect of the job in the next 10 weeks, and that's not me," Redknapp said.
"I still don't think I'm finished with football. When I've had the operations, I'll be looking for work again, I know that. I can't imagine my life without it. But right now, I've got to make my health the priority."
