Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “My perspective is one thing is the streets and the other thing is a football stadium.
“As a manager in a football stadium, I never refuse a handshake with a rival. By respect of my club and by respect of football I would never refuse a handshake with a football manager in a football stadium.”
Mourinho’s rivalry with Wenger was ignited last year when the pair clashed on the touchline at Stamford Bridge.
But the Portuguese insists he was proud of how he handled himself and has welcomed the Football Association’s move to crack down on abuse aimed at referees from managers and coaches in technical areas by introducing a formal code of conduct.
He added: “I am very happy because last season I had fantastic behaviour on the touchline. I was never sent to the stands, I was never punished for my behaviour.
“I always had good relations with the fourth official I had a new experience in my career, which is always welcome, because I was pushed in the technical area by another manager and it was a good experience for me to keep my emotional control.”
The Argentina winger underwent a medical in Qatar on Tuesday after the French champions agreed a fee in the region of £44m with United.
The deal has yet to be confirmed but Di Maria, speaking to beIN Sports, said: "I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain.
"What I know about PSG is that they are a team who have won all possible titles in France last season. They're very important."
United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid for £59.7million last summer, but after an encouraging start his form dipped drastically and he only started one of the final 10 games of last season.
The former Benfica winger was left unsettled after an attempted burglary on his Cheshire home in February.
Since then, Di Maria and his family have been living in a city-centre apartment in Manchester owned by former United defender Phil Neville.
Di Maria said as recently as June that he wanted to stay at United, but it became apparent that he had his heart set on a move to the French capital in the last couple of weeks.
The Argentinian was due to report for duty during the second leg of United's pre-season tour of the United States on July 25, but failed to show.
After United's 2-0 defeat to PSG in Chicago on Thursday, Laurent Blanc said both clubs were close to striking a deal for the player.
And Di Maria aims to help PSG establish themselves among Europe's elite, after Blanc's men exited in the Champions League quarter-finals in the past three seasons.
He added: "They made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so my objective was to arrive to Paris and to help them through the quarter-final barrier, because they have struggled in the past two seasons.
"I will try to do the best I can to help the club in those objectives and reach the final stages of the Champions League."
The Spanish goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Real Madrid all summer after refusing to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
Macari claims the ongoing speculation over his future has affected United’s preparations for the new season and he wants the club to either broker a deal with Real before their Premier League opener against Tottenham this weekend, or tell De Gea he is staying put until next summer.

Transfer spending in the Premier League has reached £500m this summer, £335m short of last summer's total with four weeks until the transfer deadline (courtesy bbc).
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted at a "surprise" signing despite spending £83m already.
"A new record is likely as clubs look to benefit from the new TV deal," said football finance expert Rob Wilson.
The transfer window shuts at 18:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September.
Starting from 2016-17 the Premier League TV rights deal increases from £3.018bn to £5.136bn for three seasons.
The bottom club will pocket £99m per season with the champions earning more than £150m in prize money, even before extra money is paid for featuring in a TV match.
Financial analysts Deloitte said the £500m milestone had been reached last Friday.
In addition to Van Gaal's "surprise", Premier League champions Chelsea are reportedly interested in Everton's John Stones with a £26m bid turned down, while Manchester City have been linked with Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne - all deals which could substantially increase the current figure.
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 live: "I think Manchester United are going to go massive on someone again, they need a centre-forward."
The 2014-15 season saw £965m spent across the summer and January transfer windows - but Sheffield Hallam University lecturer Wilson believes there is potential for a record spend across the season.
He also thinks that competition will also increase for Champions League places because of a new BT deal worth £897m starting this season.
"What's driven clubs to spend, is not necessarily just Premier League money, but BT entering the Champions League market," added Wilson.
Reports put earnings at £9m for clubs reaching the group stages, with the winners receiving £70m.
Wilson says that although a new record looks set to be broken this summer, he thinks that clubs' net spend might be down as they seek to stay within Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
"Manchester United have spent £83m this summer, which is fairly reasonable after spending £59.7m on Angel Di Maria last season," said Wilson.
"If they recoup about £45m for selling Di Maria to Paris St-Germain,they could sign Pedro from Barcelona and their net transfer spend would still be pretty modest."
"We are seeing clubs being sensible, partially because of FFP," Wilson added. "Fiscal responsibility is becoming routine, and although clubs were resistant before, now they are seeing the benefit of being more frugal.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen at centre-back with captain John Terry in his twilight years and Gary Cahill breaking his nose last week, and Lewis is convinced the Blues will not be deterred by their rebuffed attempts for Stones thus far.
“We all know about the pursuit of John Stones. Chelsea will go back in for him – they are desperate to get that player,” Lewis told Kick Off.
“They like him, they think he’s very talented and he’s a long term successor to John Terry. They are convinced of possibly managing to do a deal.”
While Everton manager Roberto Martinez has reiterated his desire for Stones to remain at the club, it is believed a bid north of £30m could tempt the Toffees into sanctioning a deal.
And the Portuguese conceded the Gunners were very impressive at the back, but he still thought his team deserved to win.
“I thought the best team lost,” he said.
“The team with more initiative, the one that wanted to play and create lost, but that’s football.
“The team that defends very well, with ten players behind the ball, nine players in front of the box win, and I always think the team that defends very well deserves credit for that.
“At half-time, I told my players the best team is losing, we changed a few details from a tactical point of view, we brought Falcao on as a target man and later Oscar, and we tried everything but we were not efficient with the chances we had and defensively they were very good.
“With other clubs and other managers you say boring, park the bus, very defensive but I don’t agree with that. They were very well organised, very well defensive-minded and because of that top credit to them.”
The result clinched Arsene Wenger's first ever victory over Mourinho after a run of 13 games without a win, and the hostility between the managers appeared to continue as they failed to shake hands after the final whistle, something the Portuguese denied.
He added: “It’s not true, you have to look at it. You saw me wait for them and shake the hands of every one that left the stairs just in front of my direction.”
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal as Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Community Shield at Wembley – Arsene Wenger’s first victory over Jose Mourinho in 14 attempts.
The England international netted the winner with a powerful left-footed drive into the top corner midway through the first half.
Ramires had the Blues’ best effort in the opening 45 minutes when he headed wide unmarked from Loic Remy’s cross.
The Gunners went close late on through Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs, but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s strike was enough to seal Arsenal’s second successive Community Shield triumph.
England midfielder Jack Wilshere missed out for Arsenal, presumably as a precaution against injury, while Radamel Falcao started on the bench for Chelsea.
The league champions were lively early on but Theo Walcott had the first chance of the game, flicking Mesut Ozil’s free-kick into the arms of Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on 22 minutes.
Two minutes later Oxlade-Chamberlain fired the Gunners ahead. Running on to Walcott's pass down the right, the midfielder drove into the penalty area before cutting inside Cesar Azpilicueta and drilling a left-foot shot into the far corner – Arsenal's first goal against Chelsea since January 2013.
Ramires should have levelled for the Blues before the break, but the Brazil international somehow headed over Remy's cross when arriving at pace in the six-yard box.
Mourinho made a change for the second half when Remy was replaced by Falcao and soon afterwards sent Oscar on for Ramires.
On the hour, Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard broke into the right side of the penalty area, however last season’s Footballer of the Year blasted the ball high over Cech's goal.
Cech then produced a fine save to keep out a curling 20-yard free-kick from Oscar in the 68th minute.
Arsenal almost made it 2-0 in the closing stages when Cazorla's shot was saved by Courtois, and Aaron Ramsey's follow-up was deflected wide.
But the Gunners closed out a morale-boosting win, with Gibbs denied in stoppage time by another good block from the Chelsea keeper.
Jose Mourinho knows what it takes to guide a Chelsea team to consecutive league titles, and at the outset of his third season back in charge he has explained how he will use the tag of champions to his and the team’s benefit this time around.
As in always the case when the transfer window is open, there has been plenty of speculation linking us with new players. However, Mourinho has reiterated time and again this summer he has no desire to let anyone go unless the player wants to do so.
It is that attitude he thinks will help keep his squad close as we go on the hunt for more silverware this season.
‘When you are champions you owe something to the players as a manager,’ explained Mourinho. ‘I feel that. I prefer loyalty to kicking people out and bringing in new faces when you are champions. I prefer the group to know that I am there for them and I recognise what they did for us.
‘Even if other teams make huge investments and go with lots of new faces, I prefer this feeling of loyalty to the squad. What they did last year is more than enough to trust them and to respect them.
‘Being champions doesn’t change me for bad, it changes me for good. Hopefully it is the same thing for the players. I want them to feel good but not relaxed or with less motivation. It can only influence us in a positive way.
‘The atmosphere is brilliant. The players’ relations are good, and the relations between me and the players is good. Everything is going well but we know we have the most difficult domestic competition in the world, with more candidates and top teams.’
Mourinho expanded on that thought with the idea of retaining the title in mind, pointing out it is not just the teams that regularly challenge at the top end of the table who have significantly strengthened over the summer.
‘It was always difficult to win matches in England and now it’s even more difficult. The teams are going to be stronger. Look at Crystal Palace, one example, who have signed Yohan Cabaye and Conor Wickham.
‘What others are doing will make a different Premier League. To win it we won’t need as many points as before. I think fewer points will win the title, and there will be more defeats and lost points for the top teams.
‘I welcome this mentality, this economic power, and this ambition. If the Premier League was difficult it will be even more difficult now.’

AS says the Arsenal manager
has been offered a raft of striker targets by club directors, but he's made it
clear he only wants Karim Benzema.
Wenger is determined to land the Real Madrid ace
before the market shuts next month - and has been backed by the Gunners board.
Arsenal have set aside €65 million to make
a deal happen.
But Real will take some convincing to part with the Frenchman,
with coach Rafa Benitez happy to go with the BBC -
Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo - as his attack this
season.
"There are extraordinary resources here," Zola told Sky
Italia.
“The federation headquarters are really cutting-edge, but we
have to build the right culture of hard work.
“Cassano and Balotelli? They are two top players, and it could
be an excellent opportunity for them to play in a League with less scrutiny,
recharge their batteries, and return to Europe as protagonists.
“I'd recommend it as an experience. We have a lot of players,
but if I had the opportunity [to sign them] I'd so it without a second
thought."
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has told SportsArena he wants the club to sign a new striker and believes Karim Benzema is the man they should target.
Last season the Gunners relied on Alexis Sanchez to supplement the goals of centre forward Olivier Giroud and in the end the Chilean ended the campaign with 16 strikes to his name, two more than the French striker.
Meanwhile, Theo Walcott nabbed four goals in his last two games as he returned from injury while Danny Welbeck could only manage four Premier League goals in his debut season in north London.
And to solve this problem, Keown wants to see Arsene Wenger launch a move for Real Madridstar Benzema, although he concedes they could face competition for his signature.
“I think there is no doubt about it, I’ve been in that dressing room when a top player comes in, it sends a ripple through the dressing room you feel almost invincible and on the outside the opposition look at how good you were before and think how much better you will be now.
“If you’re not the champions and your striker, Olivier Giroud, didn’t start the FA Cup final last season, there are question marks over that position and maybe they need to be addressed.
“Danny Welbeck is injured. Theo Walcott has just signed a new contract so there are lots of options. I’d just like to see a more mobile and frightening front player to come into that Arsenal group.
“Why not go for Karim Benzema to play down the middle. I think Manchester United are just as keen to get a striker in as Arsenal so perhaps those two will be bidding against each other to bring someone in at the last minute.”
And Keown has admitted, despite Walcott signing a new deal with the Gunners, which reportedly makes him the club’s best paid player, he doesn’t expect the player to lead the line for the Gunners next season.
He added: “Listening to every press conference, like I do intently, I think Arsene Wenger gave [Walcott’s role] away by saying he needs to play alongside a big striker.
“I don’t think he will go with Theo Walcott as the striker throughout the season. I think he will come in to play cameo roles. I don’t think he will start every week in that position.
“He’s been at the club for ten years now and I still feel we’re yet to see the best of him. His finish in the FA Cup final was outstanding it showed what he is capable of. So there is that option for him to play down the middle.”
Neither side have added significantly to their squads over the summer - though goalkeeper Petr Cech will make his Arsenal debut against his old side.
Chelsea could hand a start to new signing Radamel Falcao.
Falcao, 29, spent last season with Manchester United but endured a poor campaign, scoring just four goals in 29 games.
He signed a season-long loan deal from Monaco earlier this summer, while Chelsea's only other signing is goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke.
He replaces Cech, 33, who played 494 games in 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge before his £10m move in June.

A rivalry renewed: Wenger v Mourinho
Sunday sees two Premier League giants collide, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hoping to beat a side managed by Jose Mourinho for the first time.
Wenger is yet to taste victory against Mourinho in 13 attempts and the two managers have already been involved in one disagreement this summer.
Mourinho suggested that Arsenal had spent more money than Chelsea over the last few years, with Wenger responding by saying he "does not listen to what people think or say".
On Friday Mourinho repeated his belief that Arsenal can mount a serious title challenge this season but played down his rivalry with Wenger.
He said: "It doesn't matter about Arsenal, it doesn't matter about the manager.
"I never made it an explosion of happiness or special pride in my victories over Arsenal. I do not make a drama if one day we lose."
In return Wenger light-heartedly suggested the media favour Mourinho: "I'll leave your love story with him to continue without interfering.
"I wouldn't like to interfere in that."
When challenged that Mourinho believes it is Arsenal who receive preferential treatment, Wenger replied: "So it's all about love."
Arsenal - who have not scored against Chelsea in over eight hours of play - did win last season's Community Shield - beating Manchester City 3-0 at Wembley.
Pre-season form
Arsenal have been in fine form this summer, and have already won two pre-season tournaments.
A highlight has been the emergence of youngsters Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Alex Iwobi - nephew of former Bolton and Hull midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha.
Chelsea have spent a mixed pre-season in the United States.
Begovic was beaten four times in a "tired" display as Jose Mourinho's side lost 4-2 to New York Red Bulls, before draws with Paris St-Germainand Barcelona - both of which the Blues won on penalty shootouts.
Chelsea begin their Premier League defence against Swansea on Saturday, 8 August (17:30 BST), while Arsenal face West Ham at 13:30 the next day.

Manchester United were champions in Sir Alex Ferguson's final campaign.
2011: Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United
Nani's stoppage-time winner gave Manchester United a win over rivals City, but Roberto Mancini's side were smiling nine months later as Sergio Aguero's famous last-gasp goal gave them their first league title in 44 years, denying United on goal difference.
2010: Chelsea 1-3 Manchester United
Manchester United were too good for Chelsea, a pattern that would repeat itself over the course of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson's men were champions again, beating the Blues by nine points and prompting owner Roman Abramovich to fire Carlo Ancelotti 12 months after winning the double.
The key Wembley stats
The FA Cup winners have only won one of the last five Community Shield matches - Arsenal last year.
The last two times Chelsea have won the Community Shield, they have gone on to win the title (2005 and 2009).
These sides have met once previously in the Community Shield, Chelsea winning 2-1 in 2005. Cesc Fabregas, now at the Blues, scored Arsenal's goal that day.
