The Spain international was an integral part of the Atletico Madrid side that won La Liga last season – breaking the Real Madrid/Barcelona monopoly. Koke has become Xavi’s unofficial heir in the Spanish national team and he has also been earmarked for a move to the Camp Nou. However, former United boss David Moyes scouted the 23-year-old last season, and despite signing a new deal through to 2019 last summer, Koke could become United’s ‘new Paul Scholes’ if van Gaal pursued the Spaniard.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed he is on the hunt for a new midfielder to join in the summer.
Question marks still hang over the Dutchman’s tactical approach, and when asked if Wayne Rooney has been deployed in midfielder due to a lack of creativity, he responded: "Of course that’s the case. I’m looking for balance and I need it in midfield."
Rooney has yet to have a shot on goal in 2015 and hasn’t scored in nine matches – stretching back to Boxing Day against Newcastle United.
