Arsenal must ‘shock the world’ and bid for Gareth Bale, says John Hartson

Arsenal must launch an audacious bid to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer, if he becomes available, believes former striker John Hartson.
The Gunners appear set to spend again on transfers before the start of next season as they look to build on a promising end to the current campaign under Arsene Wenger.
Links to players like Morgan Schneiderlin and Petr Cech have emerged as they attempt to limit the number of goals they concede, while their attack impresses.

But with Chelsea and Manchester United eyeing former Spurs winger Bale, who has endured a tumultuous second season in La Liga, Welshman Hartson reckons Arsenal must consider rivalling them for his signature to ensure they don’t fall behind the two teams who are likely to be their main rivals for the Premier League title next year.

When asked if Arsenal could move for the Real Madrid star, he replied: “He’s out there but are Arsenal the type of club to go and shock the world and go in for Gareth Bale? I don’t know.
“The thing is, if he becomes available, you know Chelsea are going to go in for him and you know Manchester United are going to go in for him. You know that already. Chelsea have got the money and the ambition and Manchester United are showing their ambition right now.

“For Arsenal to go and compete and appease the supporters and to stop them moaning, they’ve got to go and make a stand and go in for Bale because you know Chelsea and Manchester United will if he becomes available.”
