Ramsey over injury problems as Arsenal ace returns for QPR clash

Arsene Wenger reveals Aaron Ramsey over injury problems as Arsenal ace returns for QPR clash

Arsene Wenger is convinced they have finally solved Aaron Ramsey's long-term injury problems and is thrilled to have back him for the Premier League game against QPR on Wednesday night.
Ramsey has been plagued by hamstring injuries this seasonwhich has forced him to spend three separate spells on the sidelines.
But the Arsenal manager is praying that the Wales international has finally put his injury torment behind him and hopes he can have a successful end to the season.
Wenger said: "Aaron Ramsey is back in the squad. (We have missed) his energy level, his transitional play from offense to defence and from defence to attack and his box-to-box qualities.
"When you have a repetition of muscular injuries, in can put the handbrake on your body a little bit. To get rid of that is a psychological problem.
"Certainly, you lose a bit of confidence in your body. I don't think he suffers from that looking at him in training."
When asked if Arsenal have found any reasons for his continued hamstring problems, Wenger replied: "We think yes."

Pellegrini is 'toast' unless Man City reach Champions League final, claims former Maine Road star

.

Former Maine Road star Rodney Marsh insists Manuel Pellegrini will be sacked if Manchester City fail to reach the Champions League final.
The Chilean, who won the Premier League title last season at the Etihad, has come under increasing pressure following some below par performances both domestically and in Europe.
Defeats to Barcelona and Liverpool, in the club’s previous two fixtures, has led to reports the Blues are considering a managerial change, with Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola viewed as possible replacements in the summer.
Roberto Mancini won the FA Cup and Premier Leaguetitle during his three and a half years at the club but was still removed from his position because of City’s poor showing in the Champions League.
And former striker Marsh believes the ex-Real Madrid chief will suffer a similar fate unless he can inspire his steeds to an unlikely run in Europe’s top competition.
“The only way Manuel Pellegrini can save his job is if Manchester City get through to the final of the Champions League,” he told the Sports Bar. “Over the last four years, City have won the league twice and have won the FA Cup.
“They sacked Roberto Mancini because of his performances in the Champions League though and I can see the same thing happening again. Unless Pellegrini does something remarkable in the Champions League, he’s toast.
“There comes a point as a player where you don’t believe you can win. Man City will go to Barcelona in the second leg, knowing they could have been out of the tie. They know, in their hearts, that it will take a miracle to get anything out of it.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims his side are 'nowhere near' the Premier League title race this season - but believes a run of good results can change that

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims his side are 'nowhere near' the Premier League title race this season - but believes a run of good results can change that.
The chase for the top four has closed up in recent weeks with Arsenal likely to come under heavy pressure from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton in the hunt for Champions Leaguequalification.
Wenger takes his side across London to face struggling QPR on Wednesday night looking for a seventh win in eight league games but, even with such a strong run of form, Wenger feels a push for the title is not currently feasible.
"At the moment we are nowhere near to winning the Premier League, and nowhere near close to being in the race," he said.
"But what we want is to do as well as we can without speculating on the weakness of any team. The only thing you can say is that it's very tight.
"You look in front of you, Manchester City are four points ahead of us, and you look behind you, there's plenty of people chasing us.
"That will be very, very tight and it will be down to consistency in our results and mental strength. That will certainly be needed again on Wednesday night."
Whilst closing in on Capital One Cup winners Chelsea seems an outside bet for Wenger, he is hoping a drop in form form reigning champions Man City could open up the chance to pip Manuel Pellegrini's side to second spot.
"At the moment we are too far from Chelsea to say we are in the title race, but you never know what can happen," he added.
"I speak as well about Man City, why should they give up for the title? They have done it three years ago by being eight points behind.
"If you ask a team who is four points behind us, they will say it's realistic to try and catch us. Manchester City are four points in front of us so mathematically of course that is possible.
Wenger confirmed Aaron Ramsey is ahead of schedule in recovering from a hamstring injury and is back in the squad for the short hop to Loftus Road.
The Wales international has not featured since suffering another hamstring problem on February 10 but is now back in contention, although fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere remains sidelined.
The 23-year-old had been closing in on his own return but underwent surgery on his troublesome ankle and, despite Wenger claiming he would be absent for days rather than weeks, he confirmed Wilshere will not feature in neither the QPR contest or Monday's FA Cup sixth-round clash at Manchester United.
"He is doing well," Wenger said of the England international.
"It takes some time to heal the wound after the surgery - it will take his a few days. I don't set any dates, but what is for sure is that for Man United he will not be available."
As well as having Ramsey at his disposal, Wenger is hoping Francis Coquelin could also play despite fracturing his nose in Sunday's victory over Everton, with the midfielder set to sport a protective mask.

John Terry WILL be at Chelsea next season, says Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has revealed John Terry will definitely be staying at Chelsea for another season.
The 34-year-old central defender is out of contract in the summer and revealed last month he has yet to hold talks over an extension.
That had led to speculation he might not get a new deal and his lifelong association with the club would come to an end.
But Mourinho insists the former England man is going nowhere any time soon after seeing him play a key role in Chelsea's League Cup final victory over Tottenham.
The Blues boss said on Tuesday: "I have no doubts he will be at Chelsea next season, from talking to my board and talking to the player. I know what they want."
Chelsea policy dictates that players over the age of 30 are offered only 12-month deals.
Terry signed his current deal 48 hours after the end of last season - Mourinho's first back at Stamford Bridge - but his next offer could come before the end of the current campaign.
"It will be before the end of the season, for sure," Mourinho added.

‘England return has never crossed my mind,’ insists Chelsea stalwart Terry

‘England return has never crossed my mind,’ insists Chelsea stalwart Terry

Former England captain John Terry has insisted he has no desire to return to international football, saying playing for the Three Lions again has ‘never crossed his mind.’
The 34-year-old lifted the League Cup on Sunday after scoring his first major final goal in a 2-0 triumph over London rivals Tottenham.
Terry retired from England duty in 2012 after being stripped of the captaincy amid allegations he racially abused then QPR defender Anton Ferdinand, brother of his long-time England central defensive partner Rio.
But he is still considered by many to be England's leading defender, which was highlighted with a man-of-the-match performance against Spurs.
The Blues skipper did admits he was moved by the national anthem at Wembley ahead of the final clash, but reiterated that he has no plans to make an England return.
"No. It's the simple answer,” said Terry when asked about a possible international comeback. “I don't want to go into it right now.
"Being back at Wembley, the atmosphere, the stadium, it's one of the best I have played in, but it's never crossed my mind.
"I have drawn a line under it and the England squad can move on now.
"I have missed it, playing in these big stadiums and in these competitions and I'm delighted to get back to Wembley.
"They started playing the national anthem before the game and I was going then."

Sunderland win appeal against Brown red card in Man United game

Sunderland win appeal against Wes Brown red card in Manchester United game

Wes Brown's controversial red card during Sunderland's defeat to Manchester United has been rescinded by a Football Association panel.
The defender was sent off by referee Roger East at Old Trafford in the second half of Saturday's Premier Leagueclash after he was ruled to have fouled Radamel Falcao in the penalty box.
Television replays, however, showed that teammate John O'Shea had been the man to impede the Colombian.
Referees' body the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) released a statement after the matchinsisting it was not a case of mistaken identity and that East did in fact mean to send Brown off.
East believed he saw contact from O'Shea and Brown on Falcao and sent off the latter as, in his view, Brown's foul had been the crucial one, the statement said.
However, an independent regulatory commission convened by the FA cleared Brown of any wrongdoing and he is free from suspension.
The 35-year-old will now be available for Sunderland's trip to Hull City on Tuesday night.
A statement posted on the FA's official website read: "An Independent Regulatory Commission has today upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Wes Brown.
"The Sunderland defender was dismissed in the game against Manchester United on Saturday 28 February 2015 for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
"Therefore, his one-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect."

Crystal Palace defeat was 'turning point' in Liverpool's season, claims Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers claims defeat to Crystal Palace at the end of November was the ‘turning point’ in Liverpool’s campaign.
The Reds were downed 3-1 at Selhurst Park earlier in the season, leaving them 12th in the Premier League tableand 18 points behind leaders Chelsea.
But, since the woeful performance in south east London, Rodgers’ side have lost just one of their last 15 league fixtures.
Those showings, including an impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, have led Liverpool to fifth in the table and in with a real chance of retaining their Champions League spot next season.
And, speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show, Rodgers insists lessons were learnt from the humbling at the Eagles.
““The Crystal Palace defeat was a defining moment in our season,” he told talkSPORT. “Palace were excellent on the day.
“I needed to come away from that and really look at the team. We were certainly nowhere near the level we’d been in the last 18 months. That was a turning point.”

Mourinho relieved with League Cup triumph: 'I feed myself on trophies'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho expressed his relief at winning the League Cup, claiming he needed to end his trophy drought.
The Blues fell short on all fronts in Mourinho’s first campaign back as Chelsea boss last season, but thier win over Tottenham has kept his side on course for a treble.
They are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and face Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 of the Champions League in March.
“You cannot win every final, but finals are to win,” Mourinho, who has won 21 trophies as a manager, told talkSPORT. “You have to play strategically well and the players need to feel comfortable on the pitch.
“Without Matic [suspended] we had to find a certain balance and we did that. The team was really compact and had control of the game well.”
He added: “It is a good team, this is a good trophy and it is a beautiful day for everyone in a blue shirt.
“I had never gone more than one season without a trophy; I feed myself with trophies. I needed one.”

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham: League Cup triumph keeps Blues on course for treble

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham: League Cup triumph keeps Blues on course for treble.

Jose Mourinho secured his first trophy since returning to Chelsea with a deserved victory over Tottenham in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
John Terry put the Blues ahead just before the break with his 63rd goal for the club, after Spurs' Christian Eriksen had struck the woodwork with a free-kick.
Chelsea doubled their lead ten minutes after the restart when Diego Costa’s deflected strike beat Hugo Lloris, while Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard came close to extending the lead.
But Tottenham never looked like forcing their way back into the game, despite Harry Kane’s flick across goal, as Mourinho’s side remain on course for a treble.
Kane was a two-goal hero in Tottenham’s most recent clash with Chelsea, a 5-3 victory at White Hart Lane, and the 21-year-old’s mazy run nearly led to the final’s opening goal on ten minutes after a clumsy foul from Kurt Zouma.
The resulting free-kick was curled supremely over the wall by Eriksen but, with Petr Cech grasping at thin air, the ball cannoned back off the crossbar to safety.
A contentious moment involving Chelsea’s top-scorer sparked fury among the Tottenham ranks as Costa inexplicably clawed the face of Nabil Bentaleb while protecting possession, yet, despite the protests, the Spanish forward escaped punishment.
To add insult to injury, Eric Dier was booked for a late foul on the striker moments later.
Mourinho’s side capitalised on some lacklustre set-piece defending to take the lead just before the break. Willian’s looping corner exposed Spurs’ marking deficiencies, as Dier’s tame headed clearance gifted Terry with the simplest of chances from eight yards and the 34-year-old made no mistake, rifling the ball past Hugo Lloris with the help of a deflection.
But the Tottenham shot-stopper, making his first League Cup appearance of the season, reacted expertly to deny another goal seconds later as Gary Cahill thundered a header towards the top corner after Branislav Ivanovic’s intelligent nod across goal.
Chelsea raced out of the blocks after the restart and had Spurs on the back foot immediately when Eden Hazard’s low cross flashed across the six yard box, before Fabregas burst into action with a spectacular overhead kick, but Lloris was equal to the acrobatics with a sprawling save.
However, the Blues’ dominant start to the second half was rewarded on 55 minutes. Fabregas’ intricate pass teed Costa inside the box and, in an attempt to fire the ball across Lloris, a wicked deflection off Walker wrong-footed the Frenchman and established full control for the Premier League leaders.
With Tottenham dishevelled and out of sorts, Chelsea began to run riot as Hazard performed a trademark run from the left and was unlucky to see his curling effort sneak the wrong side of the post.
The 24-year-old then clipped a dangerous ball towards Fabregas prompting a timely intervention from Danny Rose to keep Tottenham in the match.
Chelsea wisely slowed the game down as Spurs’ naivety in attacking positions was beginning to let them down, but they came close when Kane’s flick narrowly evaded Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela.
Tottenham continued to push in search of a way back into the encounter as Kane manoeuvred his way into a scoring position with a neat side-step past Cahill, but Terry capped a man-of-the-match display with an inch-perfect sliding tackle.
The result was never in doubt as the Blues showed their extra experience and class, as Mourinho made it four from four in domestic finals as Chelsea manager and sealed the club's fifth League Cup triumph.

Fabregas demands Premier League success with Chelsea following League Cup triumph

Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has demanded Premier League success following Sunday's League Cup final win against Tottenham.
The Stamford Bridge outfit lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory at Wembley Stadium, as goals from John Terry and Diego Costa either side of half-time downed their London rivals.
After adding the League Cup to his cabinet, he is keen to complete the set with the top flight title at the end of the season.
After his final success over Spurs, the Spain international he told talkSPORT: “It’s great, I’ve lost the League Cup twice, once against Birmingham and against Chelsea, so it’s always nice to win.
"Now I hope I can win the Premier League and having won everything in England, which would be nice.”
Reflecting on Chelsea's victory over their London rivals, the playmaker added: “It may be the smallest competition there is in England, but a trophy is a trophy, a final is a final and you never want to lose a final.”

‘Zouma can keep red-hot Kane quiet at Wembley’ – People's Pundit Talking Point

Chelsea’s key to Capital One Cup final success is keeping red-hot Tottenham striker Harry Kane quiet, and young centre-back Kurt Zouma is the perfect man for the job.
That's the view of former Chelsea and England defender Frank Sinclair, who spoke to talkSPORT ahead of Sunday's Wembley clash:
“Does Mourinho go with Gary Cahill or Kurt Zouma alongside John Terry for the final? That’s the big question,” he said.
"That’s the obvious decision the manager has to make and I fancy Zouma to start.
“Gaz [Cahill] didn’t have the greatest of games [in Chelsea’s 5-3 Premier League defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane] and Harry Kane caused him problems.
“Kane is on fire at the moment and if you give him time in the box it looks like everything he’s hitting is going in the back of the net.
“But Zouma may well come in to counter that, he’s got the pace to recover and that will be needed today to make that crucial tackle against Kane, who can get that half a yard in the box.”
What do you think of Frank's verdict? Do you think you could be as entertaining on the airwaves?

Chelsea warning! 'Unplayable' striker can lead Tottenham to League Cup glory, claims Spurs legend

Harry Kane's sensational goalscoring form can guide Tottenham to victory in the League Cup final, according to club legend Micky Hazard.
The Spurs striker has scored 24 goals this season, two in the League Cup, and was the Lilywhites' key man in the 5-3 Premier League victory over the Blues in January, scoring two.
The England Under 21 star will be the Blues' biggest worry and Hazard believes, if he is in the same mood as their last meeting, Kane will be unplayable.
"Tottenham now know they are capable of beating Chelseaand I honestly think Tottenham can win," the Spurs hero told the Sports Bar.
"If Harry Kane is on fire as he was at White Hart Lane on the first day of the year, he is unplayable when he is like that."
Hazard also believes that if full-back Kyle Walker can keep Blues star Eden Hazard quiet, then Spurs will have one hand on the trophy.
"Eden Hazard up against Kyle Walker is the biggest match up of the final," he added.
"Hazard is a great player but Kyle Walker has a massive role in stopping the Belgian and if he does that, I feel Tottenham have got one hand on the cup.
"Kyle got forward in the game at White Hart Lane which made Hazard play deeper, and the deeper he is, well that’s where you want him as you don’t want him in and around your box.
