Sergio Aguero could return to the starting line-up for City having made a goalscoring return from his calf injury as a second-half substitute in the 5-0 win over Blackburn.
Yaya Toure and David Silva will face late fitness tests to assess whether they are ready for a return to action, as will summer signing Stevan Jovetic who has missed large parts of the campaign with a hamstring problem.
However, Samir Nasri is out until March after being stretchered off in last weekend's win at Newcastle with a knee ligament injury, while Jack Rodwell (hamstring) also remains sidelined.
Cardiff will remain without defender Andrew Taylor (ankle) and midfielder Jordon Mutch (hamstring) for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Otherwise, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no fresh injury worries or suspensions and he could hand debuts to new signings Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli.
Craig Bellamy is also vying for a place in the starting line-up after coming off the bench in last weekend's 2-0 defeat against West Ham.
